Representation in Tv Drama
In the trailer for the television series 'Heroes', there are representations throughout the trailer. Firstly the image of the solar eclipse is repeated, this could represent all the people in the series having some kind of connection with each other, as all actors seem to talk about the 'eclipse'. It could be that they have a connection with something bigger; such as super powers and playing a part in the wellbeing of the earth/universe.
There is also fast editing, with many jump shots showing all of the main actors, this could be to represent them as all having a connection as all the shots are close together of them all being involved in the same similar scenario, which is having super powers, e.g flying, time travelling, regeneration and split personality. All the actors are different ethnicitys, cultures and social classes which also represents them also having a ordinary life. This can help appeal to the racial diversity of this world, as it will attract many ethnic groups, cultures and people from all different backgrounds.
At the beginning of the trailer we see a young blonde female who is wearing a cheerleaders outfit, yet we know she has some sort of power as she jumps off a high bridge and falls to the ground, she dislocates her arm and she pops it back into place, she also describes all the other things she has done to try and in other words kill herself. Yet from the trailer it is unknown whether the female is represented in a gender stereotypical way or not, she could be weak, girl and feminine or even the victim, as in many drama's the female character is always the one to die first, or to be hurt or to run away from somewhere. Yet this programme may break all conventions and she may actually be the hero/savior and display masculine strengths and abilities.
